Academy Award winning Spirited Away (2001) is definitely one of our favorite films and one of the greatest animations to grace the big screen. Yet it is only one of many insane creations to come out of the magical, mysterious world that is, Studio Ghibli.
That’s why for this flashback friday, and also in celebration of his 75th birthday a few weeks back, we look into the world of Hayao Miyazaki. Starting in manga animation he made his first film in 1979, The Castle Of Cagliostro (1979). He has since gone on to make such classics as My Neighbour Totoro (1988), Princess Monoke (1997), Howl’s Moving Castle (2004) and finishing his last full length feature, The Wind Rises (2013).

Known best for the visual spectacle of characters he creates, he reaches into the imaginations of all ages. However, its the personalities of his characters that make the stories, with all of his characters very morally ambiguous with no real clear Bad Vs Good story.
